Biography

 

     Kathy Boulton (B.S. Portland State University, MMEd. Lewis and Clark College, registered SAA Suzuki Teacher). Mrs. Boulton has had a long and varied teaching career. She taught string music in school districts in Oregon as well as starting and reviving string programs in the Centralia and Federal Way, WA School Districts. Besides her string education duties in Centralia and Federal Way, she also taught elementary general music for the Bristol Public Schools while residing in Tennessee. In addition to her public school experience, Mrs. Boulton was adjunct faculty at King College in Bristol, VA where she taught elementary music methods and was a Suzuki violin instructor at the King College Community Music School. For over a decade Mrs. Boulton has been a private Suzuki violin and viola teacher. Her students are members of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, the Portland Youth Rock Orchestra, as well as the Oregon All-State Middle School Orchestra.

 

     Mrs. Boulton has had many fine teachers and orchestras guiding her passion for music education, including violin studies with Raphael Spiro and membership in the Portland Youth Philharmonic. She received Suzuki teacher training from Suzuki pioneers Mihoko Hirata and William Starr, as well as additional training from Joseph Kaminsky, Cathy Lee, and Allen Lieb. Mrs. Boulton also has training in the Orff and Kodaly Methods, which complement her Suzuki teaching. When Mrs. Boulton is not teaching, she performs with local symphonies and plays improvisational violin with her church's acoustic worship rock band. She and her husband Greg are the parents of two young adult daughters.
